Reflection time!!

its wrapping up session...

my fellow coursemates are rather quiet this evening. They are cracking their heads on the reflection...hehe

The reflection needs to answer some of these questions

1. What have I learnt?
2. What changes can I make in my classroom?
3. What do I find most useful in this course? Wny?
4. What challenges did I face in this phase?
5. How useful were the resources?

Ok... Have fun!

    REFLECTIONS:

First and foremost, I would like to thank God for his blessing and guidance, we are managed to gather at IPGM Perlis for another three days of MBMMBI course and this opportunity also I would like express my deepest gratitude and thanks to the facilitator for assisting us in these three days.

In my personal view, me, my myself has gained a lot from this course especially in reading classroom. I have learnt on examining teachers’ belief and values, identifying the importance of vocabulary, improving on the technique of teaching vocabulary such as using graphic organizer and many more.

In term of changes that I can make in my classroom, we have discussed on in deeper and what I can conclude is that every lesson that we plan must be attractive in order to make the class condusive and sometimes we cannot too ambitious of what we have planned.

The most useful part that I found in this course is on how important to use graphic organizer as part of our teaching aids because teaching nowdays is not as same as teaching in olden days. Students are more interested in pictures, sounds and something that related modern technology such the internet. So in order to cope with this situation, I have to be a ‘well-equipped” in the sense that to make learning into fun and something that students are waiting for.

Of course we have to face challenges in this course. Fisrtly, the duration is too long and we have to leave school and students. Besides that a lot of calling letter to attend another meeting coming in at the same time. This will make our concentration a littte bit shaking.

The resources is good in reminding and keeping us on the right track in teaching the language. So in my personal point of view, I feel that we are very fortunate to be given this chance to attend this course.

  2. At this phase, I learnt a few things that sometimes appear to me while I am in service. The challenges of how students are able to read, the interest of the students to read and how to acquire vocabulary in a very short time in order to make reading activity works.

The most important factor of reading is vocabulary. I will have to ensure that the students are able to accumulate vocabulary in every lesson. Vocabulary will also need to be understood in context. Vocabulary itself couldn’t help the comprehension and to make smooth reading without grammar skills. The students need a lot of expose to reading activity and I believe that newspaper is the prime materials.

The challenge now is how to supply or get the students have newspaper. Urging students to buy English newspaper is difficult in rural school like my school. This year 2010, I introduce a project ‘One English newspaper in every classroom ’. I hope that every student will benefit from interesting news article and they also have no choice of getting news in classroom.

I was also introduced with multiple Graphic Organizers (GO). They are interesting and could arouse students’ interest in completing the GO to study vocabulary. GOs have offered students step by step process in enlightening comprehension in vocabulary.

The issues of how students should need to acquire vocabulary in a short period of time and the ways of teaching vocabulary that varies for different level of learners catch my attention. Here I learn that there is no uniformity in learning and teaching of vocabulary. The other interesting part is the exposure of numbers of GO. This will give multiple choice for me to bring them into classroom.

    End of reflection
